Prime: seems to be alright, does its job but I don't use lipstick too much so I can't really say. I'd rather use a lip liner in the same colour than something that is similar to a concealer Plump: Smells amazing, and the tingle is nice but it doesn't seem to be too effective, maybe it's just me but I'm not noticing too much of a difference. I can FEEL the tingle but I can't see my lips getting any more "plump" PROBLEM: The only problem I have with this product is the size! There is about like less than an inch worth of product on each side and each time I feel like I use about a fifth of what I have. It's just not enough and it's super skinny too, totally unlike the picture provided by ELF. Overall, alright product for the price, packaging looks fantastic! LOVE the smooth black feeling of the tube!
The primer part of this is alright, almost like a concealer for lips or skintone colored lipstick. It sometimes makes me lipstick look a little cakey, as it is somewhat thick and drying. I didn't notice much difference in the staying power. The plumper, on the other hand, OUCH. This stuff is sort of like a cinnamon chapstick and it BURNS. It doesn't plump either. If you do notice any plumping, it's probably just because your lips are irritated. I've used a ton of "tingly" lipglosses and such and this is by far the worst. If you can get over the burning, it does leave a nice glossy sheen. Just don't kiss anybody!
Prime, lip line, color and plump is the order I use this in. It is a great primer that makes the color last. I would advise you to start off with a light layer of the primer before you slather it on. The more you put on the more thicker it gets, it starts to feel sticky and really lightens up whatever lip shade you're putting on. I'm always a bit wary to try out plumpers as I have sensitive skin. I haven't had any issues with ELF's line yet. It does burn a bit if you put it directly on your lips. I have found that if you put it over the primer and a lip shade it doesn't burn just tingles as a plumper should.
First of all, know that when buying a primer, the whole purpose of a lip "primer" is to prime your lips before adding a bright lip color. To everybody reviewing saying the color is terrible, it's not supposed to be a color!I have found this product works best if I use it like this:1) Apply lip plumper, and let it dry until your lips are no longer moist, just smooth.2) Apply a THIN layer of the primer, just enough to cover your lips3) Apply your favorite lip stick/lip stain and remove any excess color buy pressing your lips in between toilet paper, a napkin, or whatever. If done the correct way, this product makes my Sephora lip stain go from lasting 2 hours to about 6. LOVE IT.
I absoloutly love this product. Plumping Side: Smells amazing, Its very affective, I wouldnt say it burns but it is definitly stronger than any other plumper you've tried-Trust Me Ive tried them all ;) Primer: Nice, Im always trying to get nude looking lips because there like blood red and huge. SO the color is perfect for me. But I can understand other people wishing it was clear. Maybe they should make another color? Pointer: Make sure you exfoliate your lips before useing this product I find that in takes the dry skin off your lips, and then your left with this white stuff on your lips, as other reviewers have stated. Bit thats you lips not the product. BOTTOM LINE: TRY IT!
This stuff is pretty great. This stuff is perfect for special occasions or going out because it keeps that color set in & true. The plumper smells great & has a nice tingly feeling when applied. Don't see much of the "plump" as I do when I use the regular ELF plumping lip glass. But works good with dry lips. The primer is unnatural in color, can crease, & wear off but it all depends on how you apply the product. I apply the plumper first & then lightly dab the primer on sometimes with quick, short swoops. I use my finger or pat my lips together to even it out & set it in before applying lip gloss, as I rarely wear lipstick. This stuff works great with the studio line lip lock pencil.
As a lip primer this is drying and chalky especially on dark skin, if applied over a lip balm base, with fingers in a thin layer because a little goes a long way. the clear plumper side broke by the 2nd or 3rd use. I use this as primer, I purchased a eye primer when I purchased this, and I actually prefer this over the primer I brought, but also apply to lids with fingers. my eye makeup last 24 hours.w/o creasing
I mainly got it for the primer side because my lips are naturally a dark pink color but I love to wear light, light pink on my lips. This stuff works GREAT. It blanks out my natural color so whatever lipstick or gloss I use shows up true to color! You just HAVE to make sure your lips are nice & exfoliated & moisturized (but not TOO moisturized or else the primer won't go on well) to use this. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is because I don't think the plump side actually works. I think I'll still use it as a chapstick since it kind of feels like one. It smells like cinnamon & stings a little but it's not unbearable for me. Overall, I love this product & will buy again :)
I love this plumper, some people on here have reviewed it as stinging, thats not true. All plumpers tingle and this one was no worse then any other I've used. It plumped my lips well and OMG the smell and taste are amazing...(If your a cinnamon lover like I am) If you hate cinnamon do NOT order this product. it went on easy and has a very silky feel to it. As with all plumpers they work best if you have exfoliated your lips, I use a wash cloth and my Loreal Face Wash to scrub my lips then pat dry. Then apply your plumper, give it 10 minutes to fully plump your lips and apply your lipstick or gloss.
A good two-for-one deal, but very tiny, even for [$]. I like both the primer and plumper, the plump side being very cinnamon-scented and tingly almost to the point of hurting.. but it's definitely bearable! One definite flaw is the first time I went to use it, the plump stick completely broke off from inside the case, without me doing anything. I was able to stick it back in there, but can't wind it up all the way without it falling out. This would be minor, except the stick is tiny enough to make this hard and annoying! Good product, but need to use it longer to see if I would want to repurchase.
I was really excited for this one, but it really fell below my standards as a whole. The amounts you get of each the primer and plumper are tiny. The primer changed the color of all of the lipsticks I used with it and it dried out my lips like crazy. BUT I LOVE THE PLUMPER. I LOVE the cinnamon, to me it's not overwhelming but very pleasant and it really does a great job of making my lips look fuller. If ELF were selling the Plumper by itself I'd buy it in a heart beat. But the primer just generally took away from the whole experience. I'd only recommend this to a friend on account of the plumper.
I received this the other day & had NO problems with it. The formulation on both ends was very creamy & applied perfectly. I didn't feel any tingle with the plumper and LOVE the smell. My only complaint was that under my true nude lipstick (which is a lil bit darker) it made it look almost white. I'm looking forward to using this under some of my colored lipstick.
I liked the plumper part a lot. I wore it almost exclusively throughout the cold winter. Which is crazy, considering how many similar products I have in my makeup drawer. I did not use it as a plumper per se - my lips need a de-plumper if anything - but as a lip balm. I found the formula to be just perfect - moisturizing, no pigment, ok lasting and cinnamony. However, since I don't wear lipstick, I do not need the primer part at all. I would probably buy it again just for the plumper part, however it seems like a waste because I will end up tossing the primer. These two need to be separated.
I found the lip plumper to be very effective after the first few days of using it. However, within the first two minutes of every application, it does sting quite a bit. It's not a pleasant feeling but, for me, it was worth it. The colour is very nude so it can be worn under or even over any lipstick without it showing. Even if you choose not to wear any lipstick/gloss/stain, the lip plumper's colour is not visible. As for the primer, I found that using Foundation is still more effective for lips. The primer has an off colour so it doesn't always mesh well with what you're wearing overtop of it. It keeps the colour of what's overtop fairly well. But again, I find that foundation holds/looks better.
The packaging is nice and sleek. The amount you get is very small, but you dont need a lot of either product so it will last you a long while and is a great value. The plumper is fantastic, or at least it was for me. It plumps and brings just the right flush of color to your lips. Its honestly the most effective plumper I've ever tried. The primer hasn't done much for me. Even using only a tiny bit, it mixes in with my lipsticks and alters the color. However, I have found that it makes a fantastic concealer for my fair skin, so its a fine product to carry in a purse for small touch ups.
Plumper: It does work! The effects usually last 12 hours but my lips are the most plump within the first 3 hours. BUT It burns. I guess some people's lips just tingle, but for me there's a cinnamon BURN for about 3 minutes. It will dry out your lips so be sure to keep your lips moisturized after application. Primer: if you apply it like lipstick it will wash out any lipstick you put over it. So I use my fingers to lightly dab the primer on my lips so it doesn't wash my lip color out. I'm not super impressed but the color stays on better than without primer. I'd like the plumper alone.
First of all, I've been pleased with all the e.l.f. products I've received besides this one, so I was super disappointed in this product. When I went to put on the plumper, it broke at the base, so I can't really say how that side works. When I tried the primer, it was a disaster. I'd exfoliated and moisturized my lips earlier, but the product still went on awkwardly. It highlighted all of the creases on my lips. Also, my lipstick did not go over it well. If you want something to use as a lip primer, you should try using e.l.f.'s Lip Lock pencil, which works really well for me.
I have tried other plumpers in the past, and have been constantly disappointed. Some products which cost $100+ deliver minimal results. ELF's plumper, at one dollar a pop is so worth it. It definitely tingles, and it has a wonderful cinnamon scent. I would say the plumper does its job, my lips do look a bit more Jolie :P However, I had never tried a lip primer. I must say, it's quite gross. I get that the primer is meant to wash out the natural colour of your lips to allow your lip colour to appear more bold, but layering on lips looks disgusting. Lips appear cakey and nasty. I will not be using the primer, but the plumper is definitely worth it. ELF, consider eliminating the primer and sell a larger plumper?
I've tried a lot of lip plumpers and this one probably burns the most. I got this for the plumper since I don't wear lipstick so I'm just reviewing that. I'm not sure if it plumped my lips. I think my top lip is a little plumper but I don't see much plumping in my bottom lip. Maybe it's because my lips aren't really thin to begin with. If you have thin lips, I'd say that this might work for you since it worked on my top lip, so it's worth a shot! The downside to this is that the plumper broke off. :( I'm not sure I'd buy this again but it works better than most lip plumpers.
I felt quite a stinging sensation once the plumper portion was applied but did not see any results. Not sure if that is because of my ethnicity or not. Also, I thought I would try to use the primer and plumper as a conditioner for my lips. I didn't realize that the contrast would be so great against my skin. Being African American...the primer and plumper alone made me look like a crack-head...LOL! Be sure to apply color after using if you have dark skin. The primer does an excellent job of prepping the lips for color though. I would/will purchase again once I run out.
I like this product. I use the Plumper first, then the Primer. I follow it up with the Lip Lock Pencil. I find that it holds my color in place for a good amount of time. I rarely wear lip color because it always seems to wear off with me. But because of this product, I've recently started wearing lip color more. I will say that the primer has a bit of a "concealer" look to it, so I hope they can change it to a clear primer. I find that if I just dab the stick once on each section (4 parts, left-right;up-down) of my lips and rub together it gives just enough product.
I have average sized lips but I never shell out money for a plumper, but I figured I could use it and the primer if I wanted to wear lipstick. The primer is all right, a bit drying for my lips, but it has great potential for eyeshadow primer. The plumper side has a strong cinnamon scent, which is very nice, but it's plumping is a little too strong for me; it felt like an intense burning sensation that shocked me when I first put it on, but I grew to actually like it...in moderation. But for [$], it's not a terrible find, but there ARE better plumpers and primers.
The Primer, even after I got all the dead skin from my lips, had an odd consistency and settled in the cracks of my lips. I'd be better off using chapstick and dabbing concealer on them if I wanted to prime them. The plumper has dried my lips out horribly. Right now I have a hard shell of painful dry skin on my lips. At first it was nice... it flushed the color of my lips and did make them appear larger. The cinnamon wasn't over-powering and I thought it'd be nice for macking. But after two days of using it (only one application per day) My lips feel horrible.
I just tried it and am confused by the people saying it stung a lot. It stung about as much as any useful plumper, and that wasn't very much. The primer went on a bit slicker than I expected...may have been because i tend to overuse lip balm but yeah, we'll see. it DID make my lipgloss stay much longer than normal and I liked the nudey color it became, might try just wearing that alone. Pretty good product, and the plumping ACTUALLY WORKED on me, and I've tried a fair amount of lip plumpers...this one will actually get some use though, I am glad to say.
Lip plumbers are going to have almost a "stinging" feeling. You do get that with this lip plumper, but it's not overwhelming. I've used it a few times as a base for my lip sticks and it worked great. It plumped my lips slightly and moisturized my lips. The lip primer, honestly I haven't used a lip primer until I purchased this product. I felt that it brought out the true colors of my lip sticks, but not necessarily making my lip color last longer. For holding the color in place, I found combining the primer with the lip lock pencil worked well.
I felt like the product did exactly what it said. The plump side tingles and my lips do feel a bit plumper. Also, I found the plumping side to be really great at moisturizing. The tan side isn't my favorite. It went on just fine but then the lipstick was blotchy over it. This is why I listed the con as clumpy application. The actual product goes on ok after a few coats, but then the actual lipstick requires a few coats to cover up the tan however, the tan does allow the true color of the lipstick to show more. Kind of a con within a pro there.
I love the lip plumper. Unfortunately, after you use it for awhile (I use this thing every day -- millions of times a day) the plumping effect doesn't really show. BUT it makes a great lip balm and the tingle is amazing, so I'd continue to buy this just for the plumper. I wish there was more to it, though. One way to make more, would be for ELF to eliminate the primer altogether. I think it sucks. It goes on much too thick and takes away from the color of my lipsticks. It also dries out my lips, which I hate. So primer = bad; plumper = good.
i absolutely love the plumper but not the primer - on my lips. i hated to waste it and it stuck in the back of my mind. at work one day (i love it as a chappy for work) i took it with me to the bathroom to apply the plumper after i brushed my teeth after lunch - and while looking in the mirror it struck me - -the primer side is perfect for a quick touch up/cover up for under my eyes/corners of eyes - a little blemish - whatever!!! and its all in one case!! two great touch up products in one! and i love the cinnamon in the plumper!!
I was very skeptical of ELF (sorry; I usually buy very expensive makeup because I've found it to be what works), but after reading the reviews, I decided to try it. The plumper is perfect. There's almost no other way to describe it: it glides on smoothly-- far more so than the famous brand-- and seems to really condition the lips as it plumps. And plump it does! I have never been bothered by the 'tingle' from a product, but this was really overwhelming... in the best way possible. (The irritation means it's working, after all.) My only complaint is that the product is much smaller than I expected due to both its packaging and an earlier review. However, as many have pointed out, at this price point, it's almost irrelevant. ELF, you have another convert.
I will never put the plumper side again. IT BURNED! I will how ever use the primer side pretty much once a week. It is ok as a primer. It works even better if you mix it with a pigment. You do this buy getting enough of the primer on your hand that will cover your lips. Then the colour you want on you lip brush. Mix both together on your hand using the lip brush. Then use the lip brush to put on your new shade. I made a BRIGHT green lip colour this way. Do not know why I needed birght green other then the fact that I could do it.
