First for the eyeshadow base: It works great to give my eyeshadows a rich color when applied. But by the middle of the day, my eye-makeup is creasing, smudging, and fading. I do not know if it's because I might have applied too much but I always try to spread on a thin layer onto my lids. This isn't a very effective base. The eyeliner side has been pretty good the last few times I used it. I've only used it with black eyeshadows and it doesn't smudge or fade which is awesome! I haven't tried any colors and I would think that after using black so much, trying the liner with a light shadow would not work so well. But I'm very happy with the liner side so far.
I bought this because I can't seem to find a good eyeliner that stays in place and doesn't smudge. I also got this because my eyeshadow tends to fade during the day, and being a FT mom, FT student, wife and business owner, I really don't have any extra time to do make-up touch-ups. I got this and tried it the next day. It's wonderful! My shadow stays in place, creases just a little, but nothing too horrible. The eyeliner part took me a couple time to figure out. It works better, I found, if you DON'T mix it with the eye shadow, but apply it straight to your eye, then I sweep the eyeshadow over it and it seems to do the trick!
I ordered this primarily for the primer side, and it works fairly well for that. My only issue is that it goes on a little orange on my skin, and that color still remains a little even after I blend it out with my finger. I use a thin layer and it works well in binding my shadows without making them difficult to blend. I find it is fairly long-lasting and have had no issues with creasing, though I don't have particularly oily eyelids or any issues like that. I don't like to use the liner sealer with eyeshadows; instead, I trace it over pencil liner, because I find they can be creamy and smudge. The sealer prevents this well.
To say the least, Wow! This primer liner is fabulous. I have been in search for a liner seal and thought I would try this and for the price I cannot say enought great things about it, the primer is pretty great too. I have very oily skin, including my eye lids and this stuff works. I am in my mid forties and use high end cosmetics for many years. I am amazed with elf cosmetics, thus far. I have acne prone skin so I am very cautious on what I put on my skin, but I am willing to give this line a try, can't hurt for the price, if they don't work I will give them to my mom who doesn't have to worry about breakouts and oily skin.
ELF, this is a miss. The liner is a good idea in theory; you can use this to make fun eyeliner colors from your own eyeshadows. I like this product for that purpose, but I don't like what it does to the eyeshadows- it tends to leave a cakey, hard spot over the eyeshadow. If you plan to do with, use it with an eyeshadow you don't like, or a loose eyeshadow. Also, be sure to clean off the applicator before you put it back in the tube. As for the primer- MISS, MISS, MISS! It actually made my eyeshadows crease MORE than without a primer. I may try to use it as a concealer like other people have said. I won't repurchase, though.
I adore my name brand eyeshadow primer but it's costly. I bought 2 ELF primers and after reading the reviews, I had low expectations. I tried it and it works well. As long as you smooth it out with a clean finger, it doesn't crease and it gives eyeshadow a great surface to adhere to. Enhances the color, too. My only concern is that due to the color of the primer, darker skinned ladies would would have difficulty blending it for a "natural" look as the primer claims. I'm bi-racial and I don't have this problem, but I think ELF should consider this in the future. My name brand primer is transparent and I would prefer this to be as well. Overall a great buy for me!
I would have liked to give this product 5 stars, but because of the primer, it's getting 4. Primer: The primer is easy to apply , but does not blend into the skin well and is an odd yellowish/orangey color. For the most part, this is okay because eyeshadow goes over the top. Unless you set it with a translucent powder, cream shadows do not work well with this product because it will crease. Liner Sealer: This side of the product is AWESOME! I have no complaints here. I own the 120 pro palette, so I now have eyeliner in virtually every color across the board. Overall, this is a great product for the price. I will purchase this again just for the liner sealer alone.
Okay i just got to say, that dont buy products because of the brand. Lets just say that i bought another primer that was triple the cost of the elf primer. The product well was a whole mess. it didnt not do the job it claims to do. My eyeshadow didnt last not even two hours. Buy the elf eye primer lasted the whole night out. I would definetly recommend the elf eye primer to my family and friends. The price is good and it does the job... I just love it ! Im planing to order more. love it , love it'!!!
First time E.L.F product user. Accustomed to high end make-up. Results: Eye primer side blends fantastic, smooth on my eye lid. I have used it 4 days in a row, with different weather, including super hot, to cool a/c and I have used different make up on top of it and it holds up very well. For the price- you can't go wrong! Liner sealer works awesome, Turn ANY shadow or blush into a liner. Great concept! Slightly waterproof, meaning, I put water over it and it smudged just a wee bit- but I used a cloth with NO soap to remove.... so wiping it did get it off. I went swimming with it on- It lasted just fine, though I wouldn't do a photo shoot without touching up first.
This product I was horibly disappointed in because first of all it was alot smaller than what I thought it was going to be. Second the primer doesn't work at ALL!!!! It hardly tingles and doesn't do anything to my slightly thin lips. Third the primer fades when you start eating and makes the lip stick lighter than you want it to be and it clumps up so you have to smooth it with your finger. The two only good things about it was when you ate it didnt go on the straw and food like i've noticed without primer and the plumber smells soooo good like cinomon but thats it!! I won't probably purchase this product again though.
I absolutely LOVE the eye primer to this product, its creamy, silky smooth, and works perfectly. Everyday I use it, there is never a crease is my eyeshadows, my make up stays more vivid and lasts longer. I have a very fast paced job that can have me sweating at times, and this primer NEVER fails! As for the liner sealer, its a great idea, but the chemicals irritate my sensitive eyes, and the tip seems like it would go out easily, due to dipping it into different colors. This is why I gave the product only 4 stars. But you can't beat the price, and the primer is the best I've used! And, its going to last a long time!
I love both of these and love that they come together...I use the eyelid primer and it is easily blended to cover the whole eyelid, then when I applied the eyeshadow, it didn't move...for an all day wear look. :) LOVE the Liner Sealer...I watched the video & what a great idea! Love making my own color of eyeliners. Haven't tried it just over my regular liners, I'm having too much fun making new ones out of my 11 free mineral eyeshadows I got earlier ;) As for cleaning...no problem...little antibacterial soap and water and move back n forth and wallah, clean & ready to go for the next one! Can't do without this one!
Forget about the primer side of this (horrible! waxy! creases! etc!), it's all about the liner sealer! What a cool product! I didn't even realize what it was for until after it came in the mail. I'm glad it's awesome, because I got it for the primer and obviously I was very disappointed. I use the liner sealer to create beautiful eyeliners out of my eyeshadows. It's long lasting and very handy. The felt tip applicator is great too. Love the shape. How don't more people know about this product?! I wish they'd make JUST the liner sealer in a bigger amount. This would get 5 stars if it wasn't for the laughable primer.
I use this product everyday (the primer side only) and it works great. It helps keep my shadow on longer and make it brighter! Its just takes a bit of work to make the product not so visible. But the eyeliner side is...not so great. The colors dont go as on as bright or dark as they are and the brush doesnt stay wet enough to apply the eyeshadow turned liner. Also once the liner is applied, it fades and smudges very fast. But id still buy this product again just for the primer side!
I just bought this with the hopes that maybe the eyeshadow primer might be comparable to my Urban Deccay eyeshadow potion, but it definitely held no comparison. After just an hour my eyeshadow was already creasing, where as with the Urban Decay, my eyeshadow stays put without creasing for days on end. If you're buying it for the waterproof liner, I found it worked pretty well though. I like to blend it with my mineral shadows and loose pigments for really vibrant colors. Overall, not worth the money if you're looking for a replacement eye primer. The competetors might be 5x the price, but they're worth every cent.
ok first off this product was not terrible but i kinda regret wasting money on it! the liner sealant is pretty cool it hold the liner very well never smudges and easy to apply!! plus it saves you money on buying different color eyeliner!! the primer not so much firstly its kinda hard to apply, liquid primer is much easier!! and it creases!!!! that is the worst thing about the product!!! but i have found that it makes a good concealer!! just put a little on a blemish then add some pressed powder and tada!! of course this might not be your skin color though :/over all the product is ok i use the primer for concealer but i hardly ever use the sealant! still it might work for you :)
I will admit I hated the liner when I first tried using it because it stunk sooo bad - so I just used the Primer until I warmed up to the liner sealer - and now I love it! I wish ELF would make this as a standalone product because I'd buy them in bulk! As for the primer, I use it every time I put eyeshadow on my eyes. I think it really has a nice creamy consistency which I really love and it does blend so easily on the lid. The only con I have about the primer is after a long eight hour day at work, or sometimes even more - I do notice that my eyeshadow has faded a light bit - but nothing too horrible. I will definitely buy this product again! ELF, make a standalone liner sealer!
I dont often wear eyeshadow but with the ELF Primer it makes it much easier. i read a lot about how difficult it is to apply and i understand so what i do is make one or two strokes across the lids and use a brush to blend it in so it becomes smoother and softer. then i have a great base for my eyeshadow. i have been wearing eyeshadow more then usual thanks to this product. i have sensitive eyes so i go slow with all eye products. mayby i will try the eyeliner next week. but this product works GREAT and i love it. shadow last all day but you must bush it smooth before you apply your shadow in my opinion,
I really love this product. It goes on very smoothly, and holds eyeshadow so well. For me it lasts all day long, and only creases after about 10 hours of wear. If I apply a cream shadow above the primer, and then a powder shadow, it doesn't crease at all. The liner is also amazing when used with loose mineral eyeshadow. The minerals practically melt onto the the tip. I noticed it does flake if you use it on your bottom lid but not on top. I gave it a 4/5 because as wonderful as it is, there is slight problems with creasing and flaking. Other than that this is an amazing primer and well worth the money!
I've never used primer before, so I can't comment on how the primer end compares to other brands. (For me I think it does fine. Though you do have to apply it very carefully, almost dabbing it on more than spreading it on, or I'd be afraid it'd break.) The sealer, however, is amazing. I put it on over my eyeliner, and the eyeliner lasted through moving to a new house on a humid 85-degree day. Now I use it every day. The only downsides: it's really difficult to remove the liner after putting this on. Also, the first time I applied it, I tried running it along the eyeliner line. That just smudged the liner. But if I dab the applicator across the the line of eyeliner, it works perfectly.
I love using the eye primer before I put on all my eyeshadow. I like it more then the name brands because it is easy to put on and in a conveinent twist up package. The liner sealer is a good idea for the eye liner. I love turning colours that I would never wear before for my liner (like blue and green) from my eyeshadow. What I don't liek about this product is how the liner sealer seems like it takes forever to dry. I also don't like how you have to wipe off the end of the liner sealer before you put it back in the container because it will get the liquid all nasty. Good idea for a product in all.
The liner portion of this product is amazing... It lasts until I wash my face at the end of the day, and, because I can control the amount of pigment, it's easy to do heavy, 60's-inspired liner. Cat eyes in half the time it takes me with traditional liquid liner! The primer is oddly pigmented, and it's not comparable to the famous liquid primer we [probably] all know. However, it works, and I will use it, just not for fancy events or long nights out. In short, the liner is great and well worth the money, but the primer is probably best for someone who has a less extensive makeup collection than I.
With the primer I'm not 100% pleased but I'm not disappointed either, I don't like that it's thick and too pigmented. The line sealer is good, it does its job. I like that it hasn't dried out after about four months using it. It does works as an eyeliner and is cool that you can use any eyeshadow color although it doesn't last all day long. Overall I think it's good product for the price.
This is definitely one of my favorite elf products. The color is just perfect for me, and really makes eye shadows pop and stay put. The liner side is also really good, and turns even the cheapest eye shadows into bright, bold and long-lasting eye liner. It also smoothes out any creases in my eyes and makes them look smooth and silky. :) You just have to be careful with how much primer you apply. It's easy to go overboard, but you'll end up creasing and smudging if you do that. Rather than using the stick directly, I like to use my finger or a brush to apply it and get just the right coverage.
The primer: -greasy -still smudged liner. Liner smudged less without the primer. -good for eyeshadow. Really collected a lot of shadow and kept it there. Unfortunately, I don't wear shadows that often... the liner pen: -suuuu-UUUCKED! -tip/brush whatever it is wore away on first use. -did not bring out the intensity of the eye shadow pigment, causing it to look diluted and unattractive. -stick to your gel/liquid liners for more definition. -mixing your shadow with water works better as a liner than this product. -can be irritating to the eye if it drips. Caution to those with sensitive eyes.
honestly, you really do get what you pay for, and this was not a great product IMO. the colors did not even show up half the time, and i needed like 4 applications of the same shade to get what i want! another good use for a primer, ladies, is that dream matte mousse, it's GREAT. this one is great for practice though!
I had used the Urban decay and the MAC primer before and no matter what people said.. they just didn't make me happy. I bought htis primer to give it a try and i loved it!!!!...it's perfect for pigment eyeshadows..or mineral..since it helps the color stay..it does not crease and if you apply it correctly it will last until the next day...something i noticed was that one night i was so tired to take of my makeup that i just went to sleep like that ( i know horrible) but in the morning i was surprisd that it seemed as if i had just done my eyeshadow thanks to this primer...love it!!!
Liner: Pros: It really allows me to make my own liquid liner so I don't need to go out and buy it. I like how its felt tip so that the brush isn't flimsy. Cons: Its impossible to clean the liner brush, even though i like the felt tip, i sometimes wish it wasn't because you really can't clean it. Primer: Pros: It's easy to apply and its really creamy. It is a nice base for eyeshadows to stick on. Cons: Even though it provides a nice base, it creases a lot. I was very disappointed with the primer side, but the liner is okay. You can also use the primer as a sort of concealer though!
Like many others, I originally bought this for the primer. However, I've found the sealer is really the star of this show. I have pretty oily skin, so my eyeshadow usually creases pretty bad by the halfway point of the day. Tried using this primer, and while it really made the eyeshadow POP, it was creasing within a few hours. All and all, I'll use it for short periods of time but not all day wear. But let's talk about the sealer. I have a ridiculous amount of eyeshadow colours that I almost never use because it just doesn't fit my style. However, I love using crazy coloured eyeliners to accent. With this, I don't have to buy a ton of eyeliners AND I can use all that eyeshadow. Perfect, perfect, perfect.
i use the eye primer side of this every time i use eyeshadow now. it holds the powder very well (8+ hours for me), but the color sorta changes though out the day (blends in with the other colors a bit. if you were trying for edgy "blocks" of color, it's softened and blended after a few hours). i experimented with the liner sealer to make my own eyeliner color, but prefer my eyeliner brush. WARNING: the first color i tried it with was black and it stained the tip of the applicator! it applies other colors without any mixing, but the tip looks perma black. overall, very satisfied!
